Volunteering as an Advocate will involve:
- Providing independent support and representation for people using community or health services in Barnet.
- Volunteering with people both individually and in groups.
- The volunteering may be over a limited period of time to resolve some specific issues, or ongoing and long-term.
- Aiming to empower service users.
- Volunteering within a team supported by the Operational Manager and the Advocacy Workers.
- Getting to know the person or people you are advocating for.
- Understanding the viewpoint of the person you are advocating for.
- Communicating effectively with the person you are volunteering with and other people involved with their lives.
- Volunteering with all people equally, without discrimination.
- Researching and communicating information.
- Supporting the decisions and choices of the person you are advocating for.
- Assisting people in speaking out for themselves, taking control over their lives and claiming their rights.
- Maintaining confidentiality.
