Volunteer Advocates recruitment

Advocacy in Barnet believes Older People's lives matter. If you believe in that, and have 4 to 6 hours to offer every week, join us in supporting lonely and isolated older people. Advocacy is about listening, rights, representation and support. 

We are looking for people who, maybe through their own experience, have gained skills and experiences they can use to support vulnerable people to voice their wishes, preferences and needs.

Barnet Macmillan Cancer Advocacy project

This project is set up to provide advocacy services to Barnet older people affected by cancer. Volunteer advocates will support older people affected by cancer with various advocacy issues such as accommodation, adaptations, financial, hospital and consultant appointments and future care planning.

We are recruiting 15 volunteers for this project who have been affected by cancer.

Financial Advocacy Serivces / SAFE project: Support, Advocacy and Financial representation for the Elderly

Lloyds Foundation Trust is funding Advocacy In Barnet to provide advocacy in financial matters, including protecting older people from financial abuse. We are recruiting new volunteers for this project over 30 years of age with a financial and or legal background

Hospital Advocacy Services / Advance Rapid Response project:

Hospital advocates provide advocacy services to older patients at the Royal Free Hampstead, Edgware Community and Finchley Memorial hospitals. Hospital Volunteer Advocates visit patients on wards on a weekly basis and at the point of discharge. We are recruiting new volunteers with health and or care background.

Tentative training for Introduction to Advocacy skills September 2015.

As a volunteer you will receive;

  • free training and development opportunities;
  • free enhanced Disclosure Barring Scheme check;
  • on-going support and supervision;
  • travel expenses
  • reference letter (after completing one year of volunteering)

As a volunteer Advocate you will be part of a team. You will be able to develop your skills through the varied work you will undertake with different individuals.
